Even if the whole internet gets taken down, they will never stop piracy.
Interesting fact: before the internet, in the days when computers read software from tapes, pirate radio stations would play the data for games and software as audio so they could be recorded by listeners and used on their computers.
Additionally, your parents probably pirated music by using cassette tapes to record the music charts from the radio.
The funny thing is, throughout history, this has happened over and over again. Back in the 80’s when everyone was recording pirated stuff on tapes, the entertainment industry was like “STOP DOING RECORDING THINGS, IT’S PIRACY AND YOU’LL KILL MUSIC, MOVIES, AND GAMES FOREVER!”
And now, in 2012, we’re doing the exact same thing with the internet, and still the industry are saying the same thing: “STOP DOWNLOADING THINGS, IT’S PIRACY AND YOU’LL KILL MUSIC, MOVIES, AND GAMES FOREVER!”
And has any of these industries died yet? No. They are, in fact, growing bigger and more profitable every single year.
I know I’ve inadvertently made too much of a serious point on a jokey post, but this is an important thing to bear in mind, especially with all this SOPA, ACTA, and god knows what else nonsense going on. The entertainment industry will never stop piracy, and if they eventually end up dying, it’ll be their own fault for fighting technology instead of embracing it.
